rutefold

Share routes with the friends you ride with

Start a crew: a private library for your Sunday group, your hiking friends or the people you're going away with. Everyone adds their own routes, and anyone can save one to their own library. No more GPX files lost in a group chat.

How a crew works

It takes a minute to start one, and nobody gets in without your yes.

  1. Start a crew and add your routes. Pick them from your library. They stay yours.
  2. Send an invite link. Each link is for one person and works for a week. Send it by WhatsApp, Signal or email.
  3. Let them in. When a friend uses the link, you get an email and approve them. Someone without an account signs up on the way.
  4. Ride the crew's routes. Everyone sees every route the crew added, with its map, climbing and expected time, downloads the GPX, and saves the ones they like to their own library.

Private, and yours

A crew shares the routes you add to it, and nothing else.

  • Never public. No share links, nothing a search engine can find. Only the people you let in.
  • Your library stays yours. Your notes, tags, outings and every route you didn't add stay out of the crew.
  • Your routes go with you. Leave a crew and your routes leave with you. Friends keep the copies they saved, which are theirs.
  • A saved copy is your own. Rename it, tag it, and it stays in your library even if the original goes.

Questions

Do my friends need rutefold?

Yes, an account to sign in with. They can create one from the invite link, and bring their own routes later or not at all.

Will I get a lot of email?

At most one a day about new routes in your crews, only when someone added one, and you can turn it off. You also hear when someone asks to join a crew you started, and when you're let into one.

Is this a club page?

No. A crew is a shared library for a group that knows each other. There's no public profile, no feed and no leaderboard.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Crews have their own tab in the iPhone and Android apps, and the invite link opens in any browser.

What happens if I delete a crew?

It's gone for everyone, but nobody loses a route: everyone keeps their own, and the copies they saved.
