Turn your Strava history into a library of routes
Strava is where you record your walks and rides and see how they went. rutefold takes years of those outings and sorts them into the routes you actually do, so you can pick today's from them.

What each one is for
They do different jobs. Record and compare in Strava, and choose your next walk or ride in rutefold. Nothing changes in how you record: rutefold reads the archive Strava gives you.
| Strava | rutefold | |
|---|---|---|
| Choose from saved routes | A list of the routes you've made or starred | Yes, by where they start, distance, climbing and time at your pace |
| Outings on the same route | Matched activities compare your times, for subscribers | Yes, each outing lands on the route it followed, so you see when you last did it |
| Export | One activity or route at a time, or your whole archive | Any route, or all of them in one download |
| Plan new routes | Yes, in its route builder, for subscribers | No |
| Record outings | Yes | No, it reads them from your Strava archive, or from Garmin through Intervals.icu |
| Social and competition | Yes, segments, leaderboards, followers and kudos | No, it doesn't keep score, and you share a route or a collection as a link when you want to |
Bring your Strava history over
One upload brings in everything: the routes you made in Strava and every outdoor activity with GPS. Any Strava account can ask for its archive, with or without a subscription.
- On strava.com, open Settings, then My Account, then Download or Delete Your Account, and choose Request your archive. Strava emails you a link to a zip file when it's ready.
- In rutefold, open Import and upload the zip under Import your Strava history. Archives up to 5 GB are fine.
- rutefold reads it in the background. Each outing lands on the route it followed: walk the same loop 200 times and you get one route, done 200 times.
Indoor and virtual activities without GPS are skipped. Upload a newer archive later and rutefold adds only what it doesn't have yet. Or connect Garmin through Intervals.icu and new outings come in by themselves.
What you get in rutefold
- Pick a route
- By where it starts (near home, near a place, or passing through one), distance, climbing and time at your pace.
- When you last did it
- Every route lists your outings on it, so the ones you haven't done in a while stand out.
- Your own pace
- Learned from your outings, per sport, so the time a route shows is yours.
- Quick picks
- Save the filters you use most, one tap away.
- Collections and sharing
- Group routes your way, and share a route or a collection as a link.
- Claude and ChatGPT
- Ask about your routes in your own words, like how far you rode this year.
Questions
Is rutefold a Strava alternative?
Not for recording. Keep recording with Strava or your watch's app. rutefold is for the routes you've done and saved, and choosing the next one.
Does rutefold connect to my Strava account?
No. You upload the archive yourself, so rutefold never needs your Strava password or access to your account.
Do my private activities stay private?
Yes. Everything in rutefold is private, and stays that way unless you share a route or a collection as a link.
How long does the import take?
It depends on how many activities you have. You can close the page: the import keeps going, and its page shows how far it is.
What doesn't come over?
Photos, segments, kudos and comments stay in Strava. rutefold keeps one track per route, and for each outing on it the name, date, distance and moving time.
Do I need a Strava subscription?
No. Every Strava account can ask for its archive.
Can I take my routes out again?
Yes. Download any route's GPX, or everything in your account as one zip, at any time.
