Keep your Komoot routes in a library of your own
Komoot is good at planning a route and guiding you along it. But it changed owners in 2025 and its prices and features have changed since, so keep a copy of your routes too. rutefold keeps them with all your others, and helps you pick today's walk or ride.
What each one is for
They do different jobs. Plan and navigate in Komoot, and keep the routes worth keeping in rutefold, next to the ones from Strava, event sites and friends' messages.

Bring your Komoot routes over
A GPX file of each route is yours, and opens in almost any route app. Komoot exports one tour at a time, so start with the routes you go back to.
- On komoot.com, open a tour from your profile: a route you planned or one you recorded.
- Download it as a GPX file from the tour's menu. Komoot may ask you to unlock the region it starts in first.
- In rutefold, open Import and drop the files in, up to 100 at once. It takes each route's name, and its sport when the file says, and works out the distance, climbing and climbs.
- Downloaded both the plan and the recording of one tour? rutefold spots that they're the same route and asks what to do.
If Komoot sends your recordings to Strava, also import your Strava archive. Each outing lands on the route it followed, so you see when you last did it, and rutefold learns your pace.

Questions
Is rutefold a Komoot alternative?
For keeping your routes and choosing one, yes. For planning new routes and navigating them, no: keep Komoot, or another planner, for that.
Does rutefold connect to my Komoot account?
No. Your routes come over as GPX files, so rutefold never needs your Komoot password.
Can I take my routes out again?
Yes. Download any route's GPX, or everything in your account as one zip, at any time.
